You can never get enough wood chipper deaths. They're just so damn entertaining. Problem is that there just aren't very many GREAT ones. Perhaps the most famous death-by-chipper is from the 1996 Coen brothers film Fargo, but that's a big misconception. Carl (played by Steve Buscemi)is murdered by Gaear (Peter Stormare) with an axe, not a wood chipper. So unfortunately it doesn't count. Drive isn’t your typical high-energy heist movie with explosions everywhere or witty one-liners every other line of conversation. The dialogue is actually quite sparse, as is the feel for the rest of the movie. Long moments of silence and little action are punctuated by moments of really brutal action that are emphasized by really on-point sound effects. It makes for an almost dreamlike experience.

The film also has an amazing 80s-esque synth soundtrack impeccably integrated into the film along with really solid acting all around. The story itself isn’t anything overly original, but they way it’s all put together is brilliant. The movie is easily one of the best films of the year and the hero may very well be one of the most badass characters in years. This scene simply doesn't do the film justice. Go watch and support this movie!

Say what you will about the Final Destination films, but there is never a lack of great death scenes in those movies. The newest is no exception. The bridge scene was surprisingly well done, better than the previous two film's "vision disasters." One highlight is the death of Peter(Miles Fisher). As he's hanging onto a railing of the collapsing bridge, a truck full of construction materials rolls backwards above him. Suddenly a jolt from the bridge causes some rebar to fall out of the truck impaling Peter before he splatters onto the concrete substructure below.

If you haven’t seen I Saw The Devil yet, stop whatever you’re doing and go watch it(after reading this post of course). The movie is simply amazing. The film stars two of Korea’s most successful actors, Choi Min-sik and Lee Byung-hun, stars of the aforementioned films Oldboy and A Bittersweet Life respectively. The movie is directed by Kim Ji-woon and his resume speaks for itself: A Tale of Two Sisters, The Good, the Bad, the Weird, The Quiet Family, and The Foul King. The movie is a breath of fresh air from the predictable rehashes of Hollywood films. Do yourself a favor and watch it. This is probably one of the coolest scenes in the film, our antagonist turns a couple guys into human pin cushions.

The movie is a lot of fun. The dialog is above average and the parasite Aylmer is a hilarious yet smooth talking character. Take into account that the film is basically a metaphor for drug addiction and we have ourselves a surprisingly good 80's horror comedy. In this scene Aylmer persuades Brian to go out where they meet a promiscuous woman who gets a mouthful......

Totall Recall - Midget Hooker of Death

By now you've probably heard that the remake of Total Recall starring Colin Ferrell is set to shoot this May. Most fans are losing their minds, I mean how can they recreate the magic of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Michael Ironside mixed with non-stop Sci-Fi action and extreme violence? You can't, but you sure can try.......

The new film will be based more closely to the Philip K. Dick story "We Can Remember it for You Wholesale." So it will be going in a different direction(although not much different), which is good. But one thing the new version will never have is Mary, the triple-breasted mutant prostitute and of course Thumbelina, the midget hooker of death.

In this scene, Richter(Michael Ironside) and his henchmen visit Venusville's most popular hangout The Last Resort to violently look for Quaid(Arnold Schwarzenegger). As a riot breaks out, Thumbelina grabs a giant knife and charges toward Helm(Michael Champion), Richter's geeky henchman. She stabs him in the gut, killing him then proceeds to get on top of the bar with a machine gun and kick ass. (This scene was created to secure the R-rating, in the original version she stabs the guy in the groin, then carves an incision all the way up to his chest, basically gutting him.)

Ahh the early 90's, such a great time for action movies. Total Recall, Terminator 2, Hard Boiled, Die Hard 2, Universal Soldier, Cliffhanger, Demolition Man, Under Siege, Speed, and many more. The heroes, the one-liners, and of course......the Movie Deaths. Some are etched into action movie history while others are forgotten, never to be heard of again. Ricochet is one of those films.....

The film stars Denzel Washington as Nicholas Styles, a Los Angeles attorney who puts a vicious killer, Earl Talbot Blake (John Lithgow) in prison when he was previously a cop. Blake has now escaped and is out for revenge.

The film is violent, over the top, and sometimes just downright hilarious(click HERE to watch all the hilarious one-liners)...Washington does a great job as usual, but John Lithgow steals the show here as he puts on a great performance as a ruthless psychotic killer. This film is an absolutely excellent popcorn action thriller that should not be forgotten.

In this clip, our hero and villain fight atop the Watts Towers. As Blake gets the upper hand, Styles' childhood friend Odessa (Ice-T) appears and connects electrical mains to the metal tower, electrifying Blake and sending him off the tower. Blake falls and lands on a protruding spike, impaling and killing him. Followed by another classic one-liner.

Tormented - Definitely Too Late

Tormented is the story of a fat unpopular student who was teased by all the cool kids in school. To escape the bullying he commits suicide and then comes back from the dead to exact revenge on the students who made his life hell. Real original eh? Who cares, people die in it right? Good enough for me...

In this scene, designated school bitch Tasha(April Pearson) is running away from the ghost(or zombie, I'm not really sure) of Mullet, the....ah geez 'Tormented' student who just castrated her boyfriend after having.....get this...safe sex. Kind of redundant now isn't it? Anyway, she falls into an open grave and in a desperate attempt to save her own ass confesses her love to him and says, "I would have gone out with you... maybe it's not too late?"........and queue the killer zombie ghost.

Tormented is like if Skins(UK version) and The Rage: Carrie 2 had a baby, then urinated on it. Not very good, but at least some of the death scenes were decent.

Tokyo Gore Police - Face Rip

Oh boy, where do I begin? First off, not all Japanese films are like this and not all Japanese people like these kind of movies. This is the same country that gave us Akira Kurosawa, Yasujiro Ozu, and Kenji Mizoguchi; Japanese directors who have created some of the most critically acclaimed films off all time. Just like in America, there are different subgenres of horror that deliberately focus on graphic portrayals of gore and violence. We here in the States call it a 'splatter' or 'gore film'. Not everyone's cup of tea(though this film is actually received well by critics), but it's right up Greatest Movie Death's alley and today we give praise to the Japanese Gore genre with a scene from Tokyo Gore Police.

The film is set in a futuristic and chaotic Japan where a virus that mutates humans into monstrous creatures called "Engineers" has been released. The virus causes bizarre weapons to sprout from any injury. Our heroine Ruka is helping the police force in order to find her father's killer. In this clip we see Riku take out a bad guy with her newly equipped claw-hand.

This clip is actually pretty tame compared to other classic scenes from the movie, like gator girl, Penis Cannon, amputee ninja, and many more to come...

Ok, I spoke too soon. Maybe declaring that Greatest Movie Deaths is back then not posting for two months was definitely NOT the right way to do things. But I just lost the will, with Google threatening to shut down the site if I didn't remove their precious ads because of the "mature content" and the constant removal of videos by Youtube for copyright infringement, it just wasn't worth it anymore. I lost the inspiration.....

.....That is until I saw our next Movie Death, my eyes lit up and the hairs on my testicles rose as if I found out my ex-girlfriend was hit by a bus. I was re-energized again, and I realized I never started this site for the money, sure the money DID help, but NO. It was for you people, my readers, all three of you...

So without further adieu, let's get to some movie deaths....

This is a scene from the Telugu film Magadheera, a historical drama about a warrior who protects the princess of his kingdom, only to be killed and reincarnated to get his revenge. In the climax of the film, as our protagonist is in danger of getting mowed down by the rotor blades of a helicopter, Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi arrives in a speeding jeep, drives it up a ramp while jumping out before it crashes into the helicopter in mid-air à la Die Hard 4. Our Villain, refusing to except defeat grabs the present day princess and prepares to jump off a cliff with her. Our hero saves the day when he throws a sword at the villain as he leaps, severing his arm and sending him plummeting to his death. All that's missing is a *splat*

Well it's a new year; my Fantasy Football season is over(thank you very much Ryan Grant) and I finally finished watching every episode of Battlestar Galactica(someday Caprica-Six will have my Cylon-Human hybrid child) so Greatest Movie Deaths is Frakking back.....

If there's one film to huddle around with the whole family and watch, it's Lars Von Trier's Antichrist. From genital mutilation to the onset of religious overtones, it has everything for the whole family....the Manson family. Yeah, don't watch this one with kids. I got two words for you...BLOOD CUM(or is that one word?). But what do I know about children? A woman is involved somewhere, I think. You know what? Do whatever you want superdad.

This movie death comes in the epic opening scene. Just as Willem Dafoe is getting his groove on with his wife, their young son climbs out of his crib and climbs onto a desk by an open window. Then for some reason he just commits suicide, maybe depression I don't know. No note, just a selfish act. But the best part comes just as the kid hits the ground in slow motion(set to Lascia ch'io pianga), the mother actually climaxes....good timing, mom of the year.

In movies about couples who lost children in tragic accidents, like 21 Grams or Reservation Road, it's easy to feel locked outside of the couple's suffering. But Antichrist goes way beyond exploring grief. It uses the accident as a catalyst for the chaos that follows and dares us willing to follow the drama down a very dark path.........My kind film, plus there's a ton nudity too, so.....

Skyline comes out November 12th. What's unusual about the film is that the physical production only cost $500,000. The final budget came out to about $10 million, that leaves around $9.5 million for visual effects..........gotta love Hollywood.

Either you've already seen The Host and loved it, or you've never even heard of the movie and are wondering what language they're speaking.....well, it's Korean. The Host is directed by one of my favorite Korean directors, Bong Joon-ho, who wrote and directed Memories of Murder, one of the best Korean films ever. The movie stars one of the most talented actors in the world, Song Kang-ho. But you know what sets this monster movie apart from the others? The monster itself. Unlike many other monster-themed films, the creature is fully visible from early on in the film, sometimes for large stretches of time and even in broad daylight. Yeah, take some freaking notes Cloverfield...

The two battle it out before MacGruber finally pushes Cunth off a cliff. As Cunth is falling, MacGruber grabs a machine gun and pumps a whole clip into him before he lands onto the rocks below. Then for good measure he shoots Cunth with a grenade launcher and urinates on his corpse. So let's review. Thrown off a cliff, shot in midair, blown up, and urinated on .....yeah, that's epic.

As many zombie fans know, the death of Capt. Rhodes in the original Day of the Dead is the greatest "death by Zombie" in the history of cinema. But there were many other great death scenes from Day of the Dead that have been overshadowed and deserve some recognition....

Although Day of the Dead had fewer zombie kills than Dawn of the Dead, the scenes of gore are much more intense and convincing. Which brings us to the deaths of Pvt. Torrez(Taso N. Stavrakis) and Pvt. Rickles(Ralph Marrero), two of the most brutal Zombie "feasting" scenes ever and two of Tom Savini's greatest moments....

In this scene, the Zombies descend into the underground facility and wreck havoc on the remaining soldiers. Our first victim is Pvt. Torrez, who is literally ripped apart by the zombies, head first! Shortly after, our second victim, Pvt. Rickles is attacked and eaten as a Zombie rips off some of his face. Play close attention to the gruesome detail that Savini gives us. Some of the effects are so well done, it makes you wonder how he did that.

Goodfellas - Stacks Gets Whacked and How Scorsese Went CGI

Boardwalk Empire premiered on Sunday and it was everything you could expect from the great Martin Scorsese. The sets, the acting, and the cinematography were all very impressive. But when it comes to the gratuitous mob violence, Martin Scorsese shines. Boardwalk Empire delivers, as the death scenes were very violent-one scene in particular involving a shotgun to the face, but there was something a little off. Something that I have noticed Scorsese has been doing ever since The Departed in 2006, a remake of the 2002 Hong Kong film Infernal Affairs. The CGI headshot.

Not sure what the hell I'm talking about? Take a look at the final scene from The Departed. Pay close attention, because once you see it you can't unsee....

But it wasn't always like this, before CGI took over Scorsese was the master of the unconventional headshot. From the goon that gets his face shot up by Travis Bickle in Taxi Driver to this scene great scene from Goodfellas, where Stacks(Samuel L. Jackson) gets a visit from Tommy(Joe Pesci). Scorsese loves to show us the blood splatter and we get plenty of that here. Notice the difference between this scene and the computer generated one from The Departed. Does the CGI take anything away from the story? No, but it does seem to diminish some of the gritty realism. Almost to the point where it screams out: Look! I'm animated!

Ghost of Mae Nak - A Splitting Headache

Ghost of Mae Nak does have some really cool death scenes that are reminiscent of the Final Destination movies, but much like the Final Destination movies....Ghost of Mae Nak just isn't very good, but that's not why we watch these films, is it? No.....It's the Movie Deaths yo.

Just check out this scene and tell me it doesn't ooze Final Destination. In this clip Mae Nak's ghost "protects" the couple from an unscrupulous real estate agent.......

Ouch! Pretty good for a low budget Thai film huh? Too bad the movie itself isn't very good. Want to watch an awesome, entertaining Thai film? 13 Beloved aka 13: Game of Death.......hell yeah.

"Oh hai! You came back"

A lot of remakes rarely live up to their predecessors, but the 1990 colorized adaption of Night of the Living Dead does the original justice. Sure, the remake was just made because most Americans can't sit down and watch a black-and-white movie anymore, but it was made well. The film is basically a faithful retelling of the original Romero story with the benefit of better special effects, cameras, and lighting. There are a few subtle differences, particularly the ending. While the original ending was very dark and full of meaning, the remake ends on a slightly more positive note, with some ham-fisted social commentary for good measure. But watching Barbara shoot that asshole Harry in the head was the most satisfying part of the film. A great death.

Die Hard is the epitome of action films. The everyday guy, caught in a not-so-everyday situation blows everything up and saves the day. This movie made Bruce Willis immortal, as Detective John "Yippee kai yay" McClane. The film had everything: Action, humor, a memorable villain, and of course......great movie deaths. Who could forget Alan Rickman falling to his death from the top of Nakatomi Plaza. A classic. But there was one death scene that really set the tone for the rest of the film, the execution of Mr. Takagi. Not only does it set the tone of violence, but it shows us that Hans Gruber really means business.......

Oh those Final Destination movies, there's only one reason we watch them......Movie Deaths. The bloodier and messier, the better. Who can forget the car crash from part 2 or that bitch getting run over by a bus in the first one. Sure, the movies have been getting worse and worse by each sequel, but the movie deaths are as bloody as ever....

In this scene, some dumb broad gets her foot stuck in an escalator. Shortly she gets sucked into the machine and crushed. Blood and guts get sprayed everywhere as she is ground up inside the escalator.

Chuck Norris is dangerous enough, but Chuck Norris with a mullet? That's instant death. In The Hitman, Chuck Norris plays an undercover hit-man for the mafia. The movie is full of bad stereotypes, hilariously awful dialog, and a horrible soundtrack. Not the best Chuck Norris movie, but your eyes will still explode from the awesomeness. This video is a compilation of all his kills. Pay close attention to number 13, one of his victims is hung from a meat hook and then exploded into pieces. The best kill of the movie.......

But the most entertaining death goes to number 2, the video below is the whole hilarious scene where Norris shows a group of Iranians who's boss. Ending with a bad stereotype(whose only line is "you, fuck, motherfuck") getting blown away by Norris. Classic.....

The Tripper - Reagan with a Chainsaw

The Tripper is a throwback to the old school slasher flicks of the 70's, full of horror clichés and buckets of red paint. The movie is about a psychopath in a Ronald Reagan mask who has a strong dislike for dirty hippies. Our psycho killer is in luck because the "Free Love Festival" is in town, a dirty hippie haven. There are a few off-screen deaths that would’ve been nice to see, but the best scene goes to the demise of Paul Reubens. Bisected vertically with a chainsaw by our Ronald Reagan killer.

Hobo with a Shotgun - Red Band Trailer

It's actually happening, my dreams are coming true. Hobo with a Shotgun is currently being made into a full-length feature film and Rutger Hauer is playing the Hobo with a Shotgun. The original fake trailer from Grindhouse was released mainly in Canada, so American audiences missed out. Judging from the Red Band Trailer, the film doesn't hold back on the movie deaths. But there was one scene that caught my attention. At 1:38 we see a man decapitated when a truck pulls a rope attached to razor wire wrapped around his neck. The man is Robb Wells, better known as Ricky from the comedy TV series Trailer Park Boys....

Mike Jackson, best known for his role as Trevor in Trailer Park Boys is in the original Hobo with a Shotgun trailer.

Caché - An Abrupt End

Sometimes a movie will come along that will make you think, then there's Caché, a movie that will drive you fucking nuts. The director, Michael Haneke, deliberately confuses the audience by not resolving the story. Instead, he ends the film with a long static shot that leaves the viewer searching for answers. No.....literally rewinding the movie and searching for answers. Haneke is known to be a critic of "mainstream cinema", especially the way it always has a simple and superficial solution to complex problems. Haneke also uses graphic-shocking-violent scenes to jolt the audience when they least expect it. Much like this clip from Caché.....

Majid invites our protagonist to his home and states he wants Georges to be present for what follows.....

GoldenEye - "I am Invincible!"

Another great Bond death from a list of many. GoldenEye also gave us the fall of Alec Trevelyan and Xenia Onatopp putting the squeeze on the happiest man in the world. But the death of the most epic nerd of all time tops them all....

Boris Grishenko is an overly confident hacker that often shouts his favorite catchphrase, "I am invincible!" whenever he succeeds. After emerging from the destruction of the satellite control room, Boris shouts his catchphrase. "I am Invincible!" Suddenly, a tank of liquid nitrogen explodes behind him, freezing him instantly. And we learn that Boris wasn't invincible after all.

Can't wait till the GoldenEye remake comes out for the Wii on November 2nd.

The New York Ripper - No Ordinary Headshot

Headshots have become so cliché, there I said it. Why does every headshot have to be in the middle of the forehead as if every shooter in the movies is a skilled marksman? And now with visual effects, all you need Adobe After Effects and a couple clicks of the mouse. Sure, it's still entertaining as hell, but where's the realism? Give me Martin Scorsese's headshot in Taxi Driver over the headshots in The Departed any day of the week. Take this scene from Lucio Fulci's The New York Ripper for example of how it's done right, a headshot that would make Dario Argento jealous.

A repo man comes for Remy, but falls through a covered hole in the floor. The ground then starts to crumble, as Beth also falls below. As the repo man comes to and prepares to shoot Beth, Remy grabs an old heavy typewriter and drops it on his head, crushing it. (with very bloody results)

Machete - Gut and Run

A group of thugs enter a hospital where Machete is recovering from a wound. As the nurse calls to warn our hero that the men are on their way, Machete grabs a few hospital instruments and proceeds to dispatch the henchmen one by one. Slashing two thugs in the face and for the coup de grâce, Machete cuts open a guy's stomach with a skull scraper and pulls out his small intestine. He then uses the intestine as a rope to leap out of a window and crash into the floor below.

Saw V - Pendulum Trap and Making of Featurette

From the Unrated Director's Cut, this is one of the more gruesome traps from the Saw series. The Pendulum Trap consists of a giant pendulum blade that swings down from the ceiling and two hand crushing mechanisms with switches inside that could potentially release the victim. The guy does as the video tells him and crushes his hands, but the locks don't release him. The pendulum swings down and violently cuts him in half. Just before he dies, he sees an eye watching him through a hole in the wall and whispers "I did what I was supposed to do." Seconds later the locks release....

Overall, the 3D scenes were just meh (it was converted from 2D to 3D in post production), but there was one scene that stood above the rest. Derrick Jones(Jerry O'Connell), a character loosely based on Girls Gone Wild creator Joe Francis, films an underwater lesbian ballet with Riley Steele and Kelly Brook set to "The Flower Duet" from Lakmé. All in glorious 3D. Also Kelly Brooks death scene.

This scene from The Expendables just might put a little extra hair on your chest. Outnumbered and overpowered, our team of heroes retreat and take cover from enemy fire. Just when you think the boys might be in trouble, Caesar(Terry Crews) enters with an AA-12 Shotgun and starts blasting away. The gun is loud and powerful, turning Garza's Soldiers into hamburger meat in less than a minute. The best part is seeing "Stone Cold" Steve Austin running away after he looks down the hallway and sees Caesar blasting through soldiers.

The Godfather - Luca Brasi Sleeps with the Fishes

In an attempt to draw out rival mobster Virgil Sollozzo and the rest of the Don's enemies, Luca Brasi pretends to switch allegiances and meets with Bruno Tattaglia. Luca was always cautious, as he brought a bullet-proof vest with him everywhere, but it would not save him this time. Sollozzo stabs Luca's hand with a knife, pinning it to the bar as Tattaglia's henchmen garrottes him from behind. No easy task, as you can tell from the expression on the henchman's face. Luca is a big man and isn't going to go down without a fight. Another iconic death from a iconic film.....

Later on, a message is later sent to the Corleone family: a fish wrapped in Brasi's bulletproof vest. The meaning is made clear to the Corleones.

Shaun of the Dead is tribute to so many well loved Zombie classics, but at it's core the Zombies only play a small role in the main story. Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright use the symbolism of the Zombie invasion as Romero did his first films. It is a smartly written comedy filled with so many pop culture references, many are missed on the first viewing. Here are a few:

Throughout the film, we see references to a fictitious pizza chain called Bub’s Pizza. This is a reference to Bub, the smarter-than-average zombie from Day of the Dead

Ed yells over the phone to Shaun’s mom, "We’re coming to get you, Barbara." This is a take on the line, "They’re coming to get you, Barbara," from Night of the Living Dead.

Shaun tries to make reservations at an exclusive seafood restaurant called Fulci’s. This is a nod to Lucio Fulci, famed Italian horror director.

Even the death scenes pay homage to the classics.... In this clip, the gang take refuge from the Zombie attack in the Winchester, Shaun's favorite pub. Suddenly David(Dylan Moran) gets pulled through a window and torn apart by a crowd of Zombies, but in a very familiar way. The scene is almost identical to that of Captain Rhodes in Day of the Dead.

Deep Rising - Digested Alive

Deep Rising has everything a B-grade monster movie should have: Action, bad jokes, blood, guts and gore. Sure, you've seen the plot a dozen times and yes it is basically Aliens on a Cruise ship, but jesus christ is it ever fun.

In this scene, our heroes are attacked by the giant sea creature. As they shoot the monster, it bursts open dropping a partially digested Billy on the floor. Still alive, Billy gets up and screams in horror until finally dropping to the ground and succumbing to his wounds. An awesome visual effect and a great death from a very underrated movie.

The Expendables just reminds me of how rare a truly good action flick is in today's movie market. It makes me long for the late '80s and early '90s typified action films like Commando and Demolition Man. The action, the explosions, and of course....the death scenes. In that regard, The Expendables does not fail....

In this scene, Gunner(Dolph Lundgren) takes out a Somalian pirate with a grenade launcher, blowing off his torso and setting the tone for the rest of the film. "WARNING SHOT!"

When General Garza's daughter gets a visit by two soldiers looking for some of the old in-out, in-out. Barney(Sylvester Stallone) saves the day with his trusty knife, stabbing one soldier in the throat and slowly twisting the blade. Brutal.

Another great scene comes near the end when Jet Li and Jason Statham both fight our villain's secondary henchman,'The Brit'(Gary Daniels). After an extended fight, the duo end it with a double team move, finishing him off with an axe kick to the neck, breaking it instantly. The best death scene of the film.

Other notable scenes include a Randy Couture superman punch to the top of Steve Austin's head, killing him. Terry Crews blasting soldiers away with an automatic shotgun and I mean BLASTING THEM AWAY, the scene is worth the price of admission alone. WATCH IT HERE

The Collector - Bear Trap Scene

Beyond the Saw films, The Collector is one of the latest so-called "torture porn" flicks. The box office draw for this sub-genre has been steadily declining, but the gross revenue is still sometimes up to ten times the film's budget. As long as there is a profit to be made, "torture porn" will live on.

Originally intended to be a Saw prequel, The Collector has built a bit of a cult following, enough to even warrant a sequel. The movie has enough suspense, booby-traps, and gore to give Eli Roth a boner(although I don't think that would be to difficult). Even though the film was created by the writers of Saw IV, V and VI — the weakest out of the franchise, don't fret, it's better.

Did I mention the gore? Because there's gore, for example, the best death scene of the movie. As Jill and her boyfriend Chad are fooling around in the kitchen, the Collector interrupts by stabbing Chad in the hand with a knife and pushing him into a bear trap filled dining room. That's right, a room filled with bear traps.... let's just say Chad won't be fooling around with Jill anymore.......

Waxwork - Werewolf Head Split

There are certain movie monsters that stick with you throughout your childhood causing a slight fear of the dark and years of bad dreams. Linda Blair in the Exorcist has put hundreds of kids into therapy and if you look back now, she is still creepy as hell. Not so much can be said about other movie monsters.....

Take the Wolfman for example from the very underrated 1988 film Waxwork. Scared the crap out of me as a child, but when I look back at it now, it just might be one of the worst werewolf costumes ever. The Werewolf itself doesn't really look all that bad, maybe it's the lifeless eyes or the comically over-sized ears that make him look like a giant wolf-rabbit. Still.....I will take bad costumed Werewolves over bad CGI Werewolves anyday of the week, especially if they deliver the bloody goodness....

....and the Waxwork Werewolf DOES deliver. In the most impressive death scene of the movie, our victim hits the Werewolf with a chair. Not a good idea, as it only pisses him off. The wolf dusts himself off before grabbing the bastard's head and violently tearing it in half vertically.

Jurassic Park - "Clever Girl"

Remember in The Lost World, where like fifty armed mercenaries get attacked by dinosaurs? Not a single lethal round was fired. If fact, other than the beginning of the first Jurassic Park film("Shoot Her!"), not a single dinosaur is shot with a non-tranquilizer gun in the whole trilogy. What the hell Spielberg?

Take this scene for example. While hunting down the escaped raptors, Robert Muldoon, Jurassic Park's game warden, sees one hiding in the bushes. As he slowly and carefully unfolds the shotgun's stock and takes aim, a second raptor pops out from the bushes to Muldoon's left. "clever girl"

One of the few "kinda" on-screen deaths by a raptor. After the dino tackles Muldoon, you can "kinda" see through the conveniently placed palm fronds, it clamping on his head and eating it. How about next time you hurry up and "Shoot her!"

Centurion - Violent Battle Scene

But, other sites like Cinemorgue and Wikipedia say it was a bomb that killed her. Her phone being rigged by Shelton(Gerard Butler) to explode when she answers it. Whatever the cause, she should have let it go to voicemail.

Piranha 3-D - Death Scenes

Due to Comic-con's "Family Friendly" tone, convention organizers cancelled the panel for Piranha 3-D after the 10 minute preview planned to be shown was deemed "not appropriate." Well, it's certainly befitting on this site, so here it is....

Some highlights...skip straight to the 5:10 mark, there's nothing too interesting in the first half....

5:40 - As party goers scramble to get out of the piranha infested water, an overcrowded floating concert stage tilts over, snapping a cable and whipping it in the direction of two bikini-clad girls. One of the gals(Ashlynn Brooke) is split in half à la Ghost Ship.

6:10 - As Eli Roth tries to get out of the water, a boat crashes into him, crushing his head and splattering his brains everywhere.

6:45 - A women gets her hair caught in a boat propeller, as the motor is restarted she is scalped, face included.

7:30 - a woman is split in half for no perceivable reason whatsoever.

Breakdown - Crushed by his Own Semi

Married couple Jeff and Amy Taylor (Kurt Russell, Kathleen Quinlan) have had a terrible trip so far. Their car breaks down in the middle of the desert, Amy is kidnapped and held hostage, and Jeff is threatened at gun point to pay her ransom. Not the greatest cross country trip.

Fast forward to the end. As the couple attempt to escape the wrath of a trucker named "Red" (J. T. Walsh) and his semi, they almost get rammed off the side of a bridge. Jeff gets out and fights Red as the truck falls off the bridge and gets stuck on a support beam. While Jeff hangs from the truck, Red tries to whip him off with a chain but Jeff grabs it and pulls Red down to the rocks below.

Jeff frees Amy and the two look down at the seemingly-dead Red, who then starts to move. Jeff looks on in disbelief, but before he could blink, his wife shifts the vehicle into neutral which dislodges Red's truck. The semi truck then falls off the bridge and crushes Red below.

What makes the death scene even better is the fact that the truck doesn't explode upon impact. The film-makers could have went the low road and just have the truck explode for no reason like it was a Michael Bay movie. But they didn't and it really sells the scene.

Speed - Subway Decap

According to Cinemorgue.com, Dennis Hopper has died a whopping 30 times on-screen. All starting in 1957 with Gunfight at the OK Corral, Dennis Hopper has had a movie death career spanning six decades. From getting blasted in the head in Blue Velvet to... well, getting blasted in the head in True Romance. Most of his death scenes involved gunfire or explosions, but in 1994 came the crowning moment of his movie death career.

In Jan de Bont's Speed, Payne(Dennis Hopper) and Jack(Keanu Reeves) have their final confrontation atop a speeding subway train. As the two struggle, Keanu forces Hopper's head upward as an overhead subway light flies by and.......well you know the rest.

Later on when Annie(Sandra Bullock) asks where Payne is, Jack replies, "He lost his head"

Walking Dead Comic-Con Trailer

Did you enjoy Comic-Con 2010? Didn't make it out there huh? Well don't worry, the best part of Comic-Con 2010 has been conveniently uploaded in this four and a half minute video. Here is the new trailer for the upcoming television series based on the Robert Kirkman's epic graphic novel, The Walking Dead. The preview looks very faithful to the comic, to the point where it gave me goose bumps as I watched it. This show is guaranteed to be a hit, and having Frank Darabont direct the pilot doesn't hurt either. So, what does this have to do with movie deaths? Absolutely nothing, this is just too awesome to not talk about, but I'm sure there will be plenty of people being eaten by Zombies too.

Apparently this is the 'Family Friendly' Comic-Con trailer, I will post the full version when it is released.

Francis Ford Coppola's Godfather series is filled with one iconic death scene after another. Sonny's ambush, Fredo's fishing trip, and of course.....the Moe Greene Special. But perhaps the most important death scene takes place at Louis' Restaurant, where Michael met Sollozzo and McClusky to resolve their hostilities. Important because it is Michael Corleone's first brush with the family business, THE key moment for Michael as he sacrifices everything for his family....

After Michael returns from the bathroom the tension builds. Sollozzo converses in Italian, but the film provides no subtitles because what he's saying doesn't matter. Coppola wants you to focus on Michael Corleone and his state of emotion. The tension builds further as the camera slowly zooms in on Michael, suddenly the sound of a subway train drowns everything else in the room. That's when Michael leaps to his feet and shoots Sollozzo in the forehead, killing him instantly. He quickly shoots McCluskey in the throat, and then again in the forehead. McClusky violently spasms and smashes his head on through the table as Michael flees the scene. Not only is it a great death because of what it signifies, but holy shit, he shoots him in the throat man. You don't see that too often. Michael has now taken the first step to his own downfall.

Universal Soldier - Discharged

The final fight between Luc Devereaux(Jean-Claude Van Damme) and Sergeant Andrew Scott (Dolph Lundgren) in the 1992 film Universal Soldier. The fight basically starts out like the first round in Rocky IV, a complete Ivan Drago ass kicking. That is until Devereaux injects himself with a "muscle enhancer" and goes...well Van Damme on him. His roid rage rampage on Lundgren's face gets to the point of ridiculousness until he kicks him through the barn, revealing the giant hay harvester in the background. After about five more kicks, Devereaux gives Scott the final blow, sending him flying into the spikes of the harvester. Ah, he must be dead. NOPE, he grabs Devereaux's head and tries to impale it on one of the spikes in a desperate last attempt. After a short struggle, Devereaux snaps Scott's arm and hits the switch on the harvester. The machine turns on and grinds the Sergeant's body into pieces. WATCH IT HERE

Under Siege 2: Dark Territory - Watch Your Fingers

Over the top and sometimes just downright ridiculous. Steven Seagal returns as Casey Ryback in Under Siege 2: Dark Territory. Watch Seagal leap from a speeding train, kill bad guys, and save Washington, all without putting a mark on his immaculate black suit. So many plot holes and hilarious B-movie one-liners ("Assumption is the mother of all fuck ups!") make this Seagal flick a must watch. Take this scene for example. As the train crashes head-on into another train(an impressive crash using models), Seagal OUTRUNS the impact as he sprints to the back of the train, jumps and grabs a rope ladder from a helicopter. But our bad guy, Travis Dane, has survived the crash and attempts to climb onto the helicopter. As Dane holds on to the edge of the helicopter, Ryback slides the cabin door shut, severing Dane's fingers and causing him to fall into a massive fireball while yelling "Ryyyyyyybaaaaaaaack!" on the way down.

Easy Rider - End of the Road

"We blew it" says Wyatt. Our protagonist's search for spiritual freedom was a complete failure. The next morning as Billy and Wyatt continue their journey, two hillbillies with nothing better to do decide to "scare the hell out of them." As they pull alongside Billy with their pickup truck, one of the hillbillies points a loaded shotgun at him while yelling out classic lines like "Why don't you get a haircut?" Billy responds with the old "New Jersey greeting", but this hillbilly doesn't take too kindly to obscene gestures, so he fires the shotgun at Billy who immediately hits the pavement. Wyatt stops to help Billy, then quickly jumps back on his bike to go get help. Well, of course the two good ol' boys in the pickup turn around and come back - can't have any witnesses, ya know - and blast Wyatt and his motorcycle off the road. The bike explodes and the movie ends with a continuous shot of the wreckage while the camera ascends to the sky. The journey is over as Billy and Wyatt finally find the freedom they were looking for.

Under Siege - Eye Gouge, Head Stab

Ah, the 90's....when beepers were cool and Steven Seagal movies were...well NOT direct-to-video. The guy hasn't had a worldwide theatrical release since...*GULP*..Half Past Dead in 2002, although he will have a role in the upcoming film Machete, as a drug lord named Torrez. You might not be able to name any of his newer Straight-to-Video films, but there's a reason we liked Steven Seagal movies so long ago....

Try Under Siege for example. In the finale, Casey Ryback(Steven Seagal) and Bill Strannix(Tommy Lee Jones) go head-to-head in a nicely choreographed knife fight to the death. In the struggle, Ryback snatches Strannix's knife away with his teeth then uses his thumb to push Strannix's eyeball back into his brain. As Strannix moans in pain, Ryback stabs the knife into the top of Strannix's skull up to the handle, killing him instantly. Then just for good measure, Ryback smashes Strannix's head into a computer monitor.....THAT my friends, is a patented Steven Seagal movie kill. You know those scenes where it looks like the bad guy is dead, but then he gets back up for one more shot? You don't see any of those in Seagal flicks.

But what happened to Seagal? What's the difference between old Seagal movies and new Seagal movies? Well, other than about 100 pounds. Two words....EYE GOUGE. Screwface in Marked for Death, Strannix in Under Siege, the guy hasn't had a good eye gouge in almost 20 years. Just Sayin'

The Long Kiss Goodnight - Movie Death Explosion!

I'm a sucker for explosions, particularly giant-movie-ending-villain-killing explosions. Take The Long Kiss Goodnight for example, they do it right. Here's how:

1. Keep him alive - A classic rule. Before the big explosion, the villain must be on the brink of death. Shot, Beaten, bloody, but still alive.....barely. Keep the bad guy alive just long enough for that timer to hit zero.....otherwise what's the point?

2. Show it - When the climactic explosion goes off and the villain dies, I don't just want to see the explosion in the background as the hero runs away. No, I want to see the bad guy being engulfed by flames or exploding into pieces, no off-screen cheapness.

3. Outrun the fireball - Laws of physics? Pffft... not in this house. Another classic rule where the Hero must outrun the final explosion in a fashionable and death-defying way. The explosion must be the biggest of the film, flaming projectiles are optional.

All these rules are covered above and beyond in The Long Kiss Goodnight. The scene involves a truck bomb that is supposed to blow up the bridge at Niagara Falls. As Charly(Geena Davis) is attacked by the bad guy from a helicopter, she uses a dead body as a counterweight to lift herself into the sky and shoot him. He falls and lands on top of the truck bomb.....and the fun begins.

Jaws - “Smile, You Son of a Bitch!”

Here at Greatest Movie Deaths, we like to keep it to death scenes of humans or humanoids, but this one is just too good to ignore. A classic. The death of Jaws, well the first Jaws at least, the original Jaws.

In the film's finale, Brody(Roy Scheider) is the only one left to do battle with the giant monster. He climbs the mast of the sinking vessel with Quint's gun(R.I.P.) and aims for the pressurized air tank wedged in the shark's mouth. He fires shot after shot at the oncoming shark, but misses. Just as he takes his last shot he yells out, “Smile, You Son of a Bitch!” and hits the target. The oxygen canister explodes, destroying the shark and sending a geyser of blood and fish guts flying into the air.

Robert Rodriguez named the film "Predators" in relation to how the second film in the Alien franchise was called Aliens. It looks like they're trying to recreate what worked so well in the original: Great characters, cool weapons, and an awesome monster. This is the sequel we have all been waiting for.

Kick Ass - Car Crusher

This scene is straight from the awesome comic by Mark Millar. Our heroes interrogate Cody(Dexter Fletcher), one of Frank D'Amico goons, as he's handcuffed to the steering wheel of a car. No big deal, right? Well, the car happens to be inside an industrial size car crusher. After Cody spills his guts, Hit-Girl hits the switch to start the machine. Our victim starts to panic as the automobile is compressed from both sides by large hydraulically-powered plates. The car is crushed and Cody explodes, splattering blood across the windshield. Finally, the machine expels a cube of metal and plastic that was once our friend Cody and Hit-Girl tells us her true feelings about him.

Kick Ass - Bazooka Blast

Kick-Ass is based on the comic book of the same name, but does it do it any justice? The answer is no, but don't let that ruin a violent and entertaining film like Kick-Ass. Unfortunately, the movie changed the meaning of the comic and erased the whole message that it originally put forth. The point of the book was that real life doesn’t work like comics. Big Daddy was just a crazy comic-book collector who brainwashed his child, he was supposed to be the ultimate bad example of what our hero's kind of thinking leads to. The film gives us a happy ending, but in the comic Dave doesn't get the girl, his lies and manipulation actually blow up in his face. Sometimes though, change can be good....and satisfying, for example the entertaining death of Frank D'Amico, the film's main antagonist. As our villain is about to shoot an overwhelmed Hit-Girl, he is prevented when Kick-Ass, in the nick of time, shoots him with a bazooka shell at 10-foot range and blows him through a skyscraper window and across a city block of sky before he explodes in mid-air.

The Wolfman - Out of Bullets

The Wolfman is a remake of the 1941 classic horror film, it stars Benicio Del Toro-in the role made famous by Lon Chaney Jr.-as an exiled British nobleman who turns into a murderous monster at the sight of a full moon. Plenty of entertaining and bloody deaths scenes make up for it's lack of imagination and moments of bad CGI. The best part comes when the wolfman chases after one of his attackers through the woods. The victim turns and fires his revolver as he's running away in a desperate attempt to kill the monster, but the man unknowingly falls chest-deep into a marsh and gets stuck. As the wolfman comes barreling towards him, he fires, but it barely slows the beast down. Once he realizes he's not going to win, he turns the gun on himself and pulls the trigger. -click- OUT OF BULLETS

Creepshow 2 - Oil Spill of Doom

Creepshow 2 is a 1987 horror anthology film based upon stories by Stephen King and scripted by George A. Romero. The second tale, called The Raft, is the story of four college kids who take a trip to a desolate lake for some fun. The characters are your basic stereotypical horror movie victims: Jock, nerd, slut, and shy girl. After they swim out to the raft in the middle of the lake, a mysterious oil slick-like creature appears in the water beneath them. The jock ridicules the nerd's suspicions that the "oil slick" was chasing the girls, refusing to take the situation seriously until the shy girl touches it. The creature instantly wraps around her arm, pulling her into itself and gradually dissolving her, ruining a perfectly good joint......

After the initial panic, the jock decides he could make a swim to the shore, but as he prepares to jump into the lake, the creature grabs him by his foot through the cracks of the raft. Unable to free his friend, the nerd watches the jock get slowly pulled through the raft by the creature.........

Now unwilling to risk swimming for shore, the nerd and slut spend the entire night on the raft. The nerd is the first to wake up in the morning, relieved to find that they've made it through the night. But hormones get the best nerdboy as he decides to fondle her breasts while she is sleeping. He's so enthralled with her cleavage that he doesn't even notice that he accidentally laid her face down on one of the cracks. Our lovely slut wakes up to find her face covered in burning goo as the oil-like blob pulls her off the raft and begins consuming her......

Well, the nerd says "fuck this" and decides to jump off the raft and make a swim for it while the blob is still digesting our promiscuous victim. He actually makes it to shore just before the blob reaches him. Crawling a few feet from the water's edge in apparent safety, he yells "I beat you!" But the creature rises up from the water like a wave and engulfs him. As the creature quietly returns to the lake, the screen pans over to a hidden no-swimming sign near the now-abandoned vehicle.

Dead and Buried - Needle in the Eye

If you're an old school horror fan, Dead and Buried is a must watch. You could categorize Gary Sherman's horror masterpiece as a "small town with a secret" film or just simply a "zombie" movie. Either way, Dead and Buried is a classic that has largely been ignored and forgotten by horror fans.

Plenty of great kills, but the most brutal death in the movie is a two-parter. In the opening scene our victim is minding his own business until he is seduced by a beautiful, mysterious girl on the beach. Just as he thinks he's about to get lucky, a handful of townsfolk savagely beat and burn him alive.

But it ain't over yet, the poor bastard survives! As our burn victim rests peacefully in the hospital with a full body cast, he gets a visit by a familiar face. The same mysterious girl from the beach, now disguised as a nurse, has come to finish what she started with a giant hypodermic needle, Lucio Fulci style! Thank you Stan Winston.

Cobra - Off the Hook

It isn't politically correct, it's unrealistic, and sometimes just downright ridiculous. And you know what? It's the perfect 80's action film. It wets the appetite of those who crave a juicy manburger over the salad. A violent, explosive, and entertaining film, Cobra is pure 80's action. From Sly's comical one-liners to the deliciously clichéd storyline, Cobra is one of Stallone's most underrated films. If you caught the heavily cut version on TBS(that is not the way to watch an 80's action film), you might have missed one of the best kills in the movie. Cobra and Night Slasher, played by the always awesome Brian Thompson, engage in deadly hand-to-knife combat inside a steel mill. After going back and forth a while, Sly manages to judo chop Night Slasher into a daze. This gives him enough time to impale the Slasher onto a large metal hook. The hook leads our screaming antagonist into a blast furnace where he is burned alive as Cobra watches on with a look of remorse.

28 Weeks Later - Doyle's Sacrifice

After escaping the firebombing of District One, our characters break into an abandoned car to escape the chemical gas released to kill the infected. Doyle(Jeremy Renner)gets out to attempt push-starting the vehicle as soldiers armed with flamethrowers get closer. The engine finally starts as Doyle is engulfed by a large ball of flame. The children get a close-up view of Doyle burning to death and collapsing to the ground as they drive away. A brutal but necessary demise for one of the best characters in the film. Doyle sacrificed himself in order to get the others to safety. His death also gives the story an extra boost as it leaves the kids without a strong male character to lead them the rest of the way. A very underrated "fast-moving zombie" movie(they're actually biologically infected people), 28 Weeks Later is entertaining from the thrilling and suspenseful opening scene to the last haunting image.

Tales From the Hood - Human Origami

One of the single most underrated horror anthology films ever, Tales From the Hood is simply more than just a "black" Tales from the Crypt. Produced by Spike Lee, Tales From the Hood is a collection of 4 short stories filled with tons of social commentary and political undertones, but with a ghetto twist. In the segment Boys Do Get Bruised, little Walter is terrorized by a monster in his house. Cue the metaphor for his abusive evil stepfather Carl, played by the surprisingly good David Alan Grier. Thinking that Walter has told his teacher about him, Carl starts beating Walter and his mom. Walter believes that if you draw the monster and destroy the drawing, it will rid of the monster. Walter grabs a drawing he made of the monster and begins to fold it. Carl's arm bends backwards, corresponding to the fold Walter made on the drawing. Walter then twists and crumples the paper up, leaving Carl mangled and helpless. His closing line is priceless: "This shit ain't over yet, bitch!" His wife then steps on the wadded-up paper, crushing him, before Walter sets it on fire.

The Prowler - Shotgun to the Head

The Prowler is an effective and above average 80's slasher flick. The plot is somewhere between My Bloody Valentine and every other slasher flick ever, but what really stands out are the death scenes from special effects legend Tom Savini. There are so many great kills in this film, it's pretty difficult to just choose one. The pitchfork shower scene, the knife through the guy's head, the pool throat slitting. All great, but the one that stood out the most was the demise of the villain himself. Skip to the end of the movie where the Prowler is attacking our heroine with a shotgun pointed in her direction, she somehow overpowers him and turns the shotgun from his arms so it points right at his face and well.... you can guess the rest. We get the Tom Savini special, a shotgun blast to the face similar to his own scene from the 1980 film Maniac.

The Fury - John Cassavetes Explodes

Before Cronenberg made Scanners, a little underrated gem by the name of The Fury came out in 1978. Directed by Brian de Palma in his prime and composed by John Williams who is always in his. The film is a supernatural thriller involving psychic powers and government agencies. Great stuff, but let's fast forward to the best part, the ending. This could actually be the greatest ending to any movie ever. Gillian finally excepts her powers and avenges Peter and Robin's deaths. Her eyes turn a deep blue as our villain starts convulsing violently. Then suddenly our victim explodes into tiny pieces as his head pops off like a champagne cork, splat! roll credits. I just wish I was able to see this in 1978 on the big screen. After seeing John Cassavetes blowing up 13 times from every conceivable angle, I'd stand up and cheer-and I'm not one of those clapping/cheering at the end of a movie types-but I'd do the goddamn Arsenio Hall rapid double fist pump after that ending. "Whoop Whoop Whoop"

Critters 2: The Main Course - Critter Ball

As the townspeople start to celebrate thinking all the critters have been killed in the burger shop explosion, the Crites merge together into a large flesh eating ball and break through the burning building. The townspeople run away in horror, but one of them falls behind and gets steamrolled by the critter ball. The critters devour his flesh in an instant as all that's left behind is a twitching bloody skeleton.

District 9 - Venter Gets Ripped Apart

As Wikus is crawling out of the wrecked battle suit, our antagonist Koobus Venter, the sadistic mercenary with a dislike for prawns finally catches up with him. As Venter prepares to kill Wikus, several enraged aliens quickly surround him. Venter fires off a couple rounds before the creatures get close, but the aliens overpower and grab him. One of the prawns grabs Venter's head and forcefully rips it off, soon after the other aliens converge and dismember his body limb from limb. If you look closely you can see one of the aliens trying to eat Venter's head.

Goemon - Hong-man Choi Splits

Director Kazuaki Kiriya effortlessly oozes out an amazing visual style in his films. Kiriya who wrote, directed, and edited the live action sci-fi film Casshern, pushes the stylistic envelope with his newest film, Geomon. The movie tells the story of folk legend Goemon Ishikawa, a bandit hero who stole valuables from the rich and gave them to the poor. The movie is full of amazing action sequences and imagery that are heavily anime-esque, leaving you stuck in your seat. In this scene our hero Goemon takes on Gao, played by K-1 giant Choi Hong-man. After a couple close calls from Gao's ridiculously large sword, Geomon slides under his legs then proceeds to slice him up the middle, causing his body to slice in half in Takashi Miike fashion.

The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! - Vincent Ludwig's Death

Frank Drebin has a habit of inadvertently killing people, this brings us to the demise of Vincent Ludwig, the evil mastermind behind the attempted assassination of the Queen. As Jane is being held hostage by Vincent, she manages to free herself by biting his hand. This gives Drebin just enough time to shoot Ludwig in the neck with his tranquilizer cuff-link dart. The dart causes Ludwig to stagger back and fall several stories over the concourse barrier at Angel Stadium onto the street below. As Drebin and Ed run over to the railing to see if Ludwig is still alive, a bus runs over his body, followed by a steamroller, then to top it all off...Ludwig is trampled by the USC marching band as they play the song 'Louie Louie'.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park - Eddie Splits

One of the more underrated deaths from the Jurassic Park series. Poor Eddie Carr, the guy heroically saves everyone from the overturned trailers and what did he get? Tag teamed by a pair of Tyrannosaurs in a rather gruesome death. After an adult T-rex throws one half of the hinged trailer over a cliff with Ian, Nick, and Sarah inside, Eddie throws down a rope and tries to pull the trailer back up using one of the SUVs. In the process he gets ambushed by the dinosaurs as they tear the vehicle apart.

Eddie attempts to pull out his tranquilizer gun in a frightened panic, but the front blade sight gets stuck in the camouflage netting resulting in his downfall.

One of them grabs Eddie by the leg and flips him in the air as the other Tyrannosaur grabs his lower half. The two dinosaurs play Tug-of-war until Eddie is finally put out of his misery.

His heroic actions earn him a mention later on in the film, when Roland Tembo claims, "The Rex just fed," to which Malcolm counters, "Just fed? I assume you were talking about Eddie. You might show a little respect, the man just saved our lives by giving his."
